Students from the Career and Technical Student Organization, Waxahachie FFA, represented WISD at several events over the past few months. The Waxahachie FFA serves students enrolled in CTE courses aligned with the Agriculture Food and Natural Resources career cluster. Participants enjoy the experience of applying classroom and laboratory lessons to hands-on activities and competitive events.
State Leadership Development Events
Waxahachie FFA had a great run at the Fall Leadership Development Events with 13 teams competing at the district level and eight teams advancing to the Area VIII contest sending them home with the Blackland District LDE Sweepstakes award.
At area contest, WHS ended with sending three of those eight teams to represent Waxahachie FFA at the Texas FFA State LDE contest at Sam Houston State University.
The state qualifying Senior Chapter Conducting team consisted of Corinne Auvenshine, Jonathan Middleton, Ryan DeLeon, Meredith Fay, Brooke Trull, Tyce Mckie, Wesley Smith, Landon Jones, and Thomas Carlile.
They finished in the top 24 in the state out of 208 entries.
The state qualifying Greenhand Agricultural Skills Demonstration Team included Wyatt Caverly, Audrey Hammock, Jude Brown, and Kadin Vire finished in the top 24 out of 224 entries across the State of Texas.
The Senior Agricultural Skills Demonstration Team consisted of Cheyan Underwood, Landon Davis, and Kayla Milholen, who were state finalists and placed ninth out of the entire state of Texas.
District and Area Officer Election
The Blackland district FFA meeting was held at WHS. There are over 20 schools in our FFA district, and 100 schools are in our area. Students competed for an officer position through a series of taking a knowledge-based exam, interview, essay writing as well as giving a speech and having students vote.
WHS is proud to announce Jonathan Middleton elected to serve on the Blackland FFA District Officer team this coming year, and Corinne Auvenshine was elected to serve on the Area VIII FFA Officer Team.
Waxahachie FFA Livestock Show Team
Waxahachie FFA lamb and goat exhibitors traveled to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo January 24-27 — the first major livestock show of the spring season. Congratulations to all exhibitors for their hard work and dedication to their livestock projects.

Upcoming major livestock shows for the swine show team include San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and the Belton Southwest Type Conference with rounding out the show season at the local Ellis County Youth Expo on March 29 through April 4.

Waxahachie FFA Ag Mechanics Show team will continue traveling all over the state to showcase their projects. This includes: San Antonio (Feb. 21-23), Austin (March 6-7), Houston (March 20-22), and then back home rounding out their season with the Ellis County Youth Expo (March 29-April 4). WHS wishes these students the best of luck with their projects at all the shows this season.
Kayla Hughes’ Horticulture Science and Greenhouse Management class has been hard at work preparing for this year’s annual plant sale. Make sure to mark your calendar for Waxahachie FFA’s annual Plant Sale for Friday, April 17, 4—6 p.m. and Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m.—1 p.m.
