Greg Gober was a member of the Waxahachie High School 1981, 1982 and 1983 State Tournament teams. The 1983 team was class 4A Texas State Champion. Coach Gober also participated in football and baseball. He received a B.B.A. in marketing from Stephen F. Austin State University, as well as teaching certificates in Physical Education and Business Education from Texas A&M @ Commerce. Coach Gober has been a High School coach in the State of Texas for 26 years, and has been a Head Coach for 20 years at the 5A & 6A level during this tenure.
His previous teams at Abilene Cooper, Colleyville Heritage, and Waxahachie High School have made it to the Texas State Playoffs 16 times, and at the beginning of this season his overall record as a head coach is 413 – 198 and a 68% winning percentage. His teams have made it to the 5A Regional Tournament 6 times. Coach Gober has been fortunate enough to coach over 35 players that have been able to continue their playing careers at the collegiate level as well as several that have played professionally. In the past two seasons WHS has had four players continue their education collegiately through their Basketball accomplishments.
The Runnin’ Indians have been Back to Back District Champions with a combined undefeated record of 28 -0; while producing long runs throughout the State Playoffs. The Runnin’ Indians finished last season with a 29-5 overall record, and have compiled a two year combined record of 58-12. They also spent the majority of the season ranked # 1 in the State for 5A , and did receive multiple National Rankings.
Coach Gober has been married to his wife Gyna for past 29 years and they have two children, as well as their first Grandchild.
