DeAnna Elgin - English I

Welcome to English 1!
I'm so excited to begin my third year at Waxahachie High School! This will be my 10th year teaching English/Language Arts in a public school and my sixth year teaching ENG I. I have been happily married to my husband, Charlie, for 21 years. We  live in Midlothian and have two children. My son, Hunter, attends the University of Colorado at Boulder where he is a Junior, Philosophy Major. Our daughter Miranda, is in the 9th grade at Midlothian Heritage High School. We have two fur babies, a Boxer named Emmitt, and a Basset Hound named Roscoe. My husband and I are TX transplants, both of us being born and raised in TN. I graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2006, returning to graduate school for my Masters in Education for Curriculum and Instruction-Literacy from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2016. I will begin my Principal's Certification Program this fall at my alma mater, UTA.
As your student embarks on their high school career, please know that we are working hard to give them stimulating and thought provoking material that will help them to be engaged in their own learning. It will be a struggle at first for them to become acclimated to high school and how to manage their time with homework and extra-curricular activities. Please help them to navigate these new waters and encourage them to find the best routes to success. We are here to help and I look forward to seeing them blossom into great high school students.
Since our student’s success is important to me and to WISD, I have several different avenues that will allow you or your student to get in touch with me in school or after school. Please take the time to add my remind account so that you can keep up with your student’s assignments, or any important information that I send out.
