Waxahachie, Texas, is the county seat of Ellis County and is situated at Interstate Highway 35E and U.S. Highway 287, thirty miles south of Dallas in the central part of the county. The name comes from an Indian word meaning "cow" or "buffalo" and is also the name of a local creek.

Academics

WHS provides College Board Advanced Placement courses in English Literature and Composition, Physics, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Science, History, Economics, French, and Spanish.

The school features a computerized library with an online database, offering excellent facilities for research and teaching.

The Career and Technology Education program has earned awards and includes agriscience education, consumer and homemaking education, marketing education, office education, industrial technology, health occupations, law enforcement, and school-age parenting programs. These initiatives are designed to foster innovative programming that prepares students to be career-ready.

Extracurriculars

WHS boasts an award-winning high school marching band, symphonic band, and jazz band.

The school offers an outstanding athletic program that encompasses swimming, baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track, softball, and volleyball.

A special education program is available, which provides diagnostic services for students with special needs.

WHS has an exceptional academic University Interscholastic League program.

The school maintains an active Partners In Education program in collaboration with the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce.
